Tire Sizes????

If a tire model is 185/45R20 what exactly does that mean? can you get the diameter and depth from that? Could someone explain to me what all the different numbers/letters mean.

185mm wide
side wall is 45% of the tire width
20 is the rim size.
R is for Radial tire.

I thought the "R" means rim. But it makes sense. If it says "ZR17", that would mean it is capable of Z-rated speeds on the radial tire.

Thanks, one more question, how do you find out the entire diamater of the wheel then, rim and all?

Yes, mounted. Across rubber, rim, then rubber if that makes sense.

185 times .45 =83.5 or about 3.25 inches for the sidewall. So from the bottom of the thread to the rim is 3.25 plus 20 for the rim and another 3.25 to the top of the tire is 26.5 inches. But that's without any weight on the tire.

Isnt there a sticky for tires with ALL of the info ...If not there should be, in the begginers corner would be my best bet.
