'89 FZR400 Road-Ready questions

Hey all. I have an appointment next Friday the 13th to have my bike dropped off at my local Yamaha dealership to have them go over it and have it ready for me to ride when I Get through with MSF classes at the end of the month. The bike has only been started sporadically since I bought it in November 2005. I know I want the gas replaced, oil and filter changed, but what else should I be concerned about? I would imagine it would need new tires, but not positive. What about fork seals? Anything else or will they know what to do? I don't want to get raked over the coals by a dealership, but I want to make sure I don't ride it without it being ready either.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Since its an 89, if the fork seals havent been done recently, those should be done.
tires are a good idea too. I would suggest having the carbs cleaned and synchronized too. beyond that, a basic checkup is about all you really should need.

Thanks King Bob! The bike is in relatively good shape, just needs a tune up. But I don't know what all is involved in a tuneup on a bike.

generally a tune up on a bike involves the carb cleaning and synch, new oil and filter, and plugs+wires. other than that, unless its in bad shape, it should be ok. oh yeah, brake fluid flush is a good idea too. if you can, get a set of stainless steel brake lines, they'll help improve stopping power and make your bike feel like a different machine.

Yeah, it does have the SS Brake Lines actually. The guy I got it from emphasized that. It also has a fork brace, not sure what that does tho. lol

I'll see what the shop says they are going to do to it and then I'll add in these suggestions if they don't include it.

Thanks again!

How about a picture, since I haven't seen one in years. The FZR400 was a fantastic handling bike in 1989. You may want the shop to also check the brake pads and valve clearance. Should have lots of fun on that bike.

Yes, a picture would be nice if you dont mind posting one.

and I forgot about those two things, but they're good ideas too.
