Oil Light coming on

Ok since this is my favorite hangout I thought I'd ask the latest question in my horror of rebuilding my engine..

Since rebuilding my engine I've put probably 4-500 miles on it and occasionally the oil light will come on for 10-20 seconds then go right back out. Any ideas on what to check for why it's doing this?

Other than this the engine is running strong, still idling rough but guessing it's just going to take time for the carbs to get cleaned out I finally can take the choke off. Lots of power through out rev just like she was when I took her apart

Double check your oil level.

If its intermittent like that it could be a loose wire or a faulty oil pressure sensor.

Get a pressure gauge and a piping T. Plumb in a pressure gauge. That will tell you when the light comes on if you really have pressure or if its a faulty sensor.

If your jap motorsports don't have something... check the cruiser or HD shops.

your level could be fine and the oil pump still not working. if the light is coming one pray that the sensor is going bad because everytime that light comes on that means there is not enough pressure to supply the top end....IE: damage to the motor. 20 seconds is a long time with no oil on a motor.

a lot of people use too much gasket maker and **** like that rebuilding bikes and clog the oil jets. This will definatley cause it and definatley cause the motor to lock up.
