In the tank or in the fuel switch?????????

Can someone explain to me the difference in the fuel switch being on reserve and on cause when i turned my fuel to on the other night and got about a 1/4 mile down the road the bike acted like it ran out of gas so i switched to reserve went to the gas station payed 3 bucks a gallon for the 93 octane and filled it up and went about my way with the switch being in the on position and it did the same thing so i switched back to reserve and went to riding. Is it ok to keep the fuel switch on reserve all the time while riding or should i investigate further into the cituation.
and btw ive always heard that there isnt a such thing as a stupid question just a stupid person asking a question lol. thanks Justin Ft. Campbell Ky

I dont think their would be an issue with riding in reserve except for the fact that its going to make it harder to tell when your running out of fuel.

You wont cause any problems...but the bike wont sputter when your getting low...it'll sputter and die.

It won't hurt anything by riding on reserve, but you should still address the original issue. Don't know what kind of bike you have, but most bikes have a normal pickup in the tank, then a reserve pickup which is situated a little lower in the tank. If your primary pickup isn't working, it probably has some trash in it. Confucius say that if you have trash in the primary, you will soon have trash in the reserve.

I agree. There's usually a fine screen on the upper and lower pickup and the upper's probably clogged. Easy to take out and clean. Do it on an empty tank. And maybe get a new gasket for between the petcock and tank before you start. The only other thing I can think of is a vacuum hose that came off the petcock or is ripped.

I'll quote my reply from your OTHER thread

You need to drain the tank and remove your petcock... clean it with brake clean, dope, and put back in.

On mine the ON is near the top of the screen and the RESERVE is at the base.
