Keeping bike up while wheels are off??

I am going to be pulling both tires off my Ninja 250 to paint them and get new tires put on. I was wondering how some of you go about supporting the bike without buying a bike stand? I was thinking of just making some stand out of some 2x4's or something but wanted to see if anyone has had other ideas and what they were.

Thanks!

I can't do that in my garage because the garage is finished with a ceiling. But if my rafters where exposed I would for sure take that route! Great idea actually!

Most finished garages have an access hole for you to get into the cieling... if you have one- open it up- lay (2) 2x4's across the hole and use ratchet straps around the 2x4's.

Where can you get the cheaper stands at? I don't want to pay for the name brand Pitbulls. I just need something to get the job done.

search T-rex racing on ebay. about $110 for a set front and rear, shipped. Or it was a year ago anyway.
They are NOT the quality of Pit Bull, but they get the job done!

That is the first I have heard that. I know they aren't Pitbulls but I thought everybody was happy with them considering what they paid.

Another vote for stands.

This most likely won't be the only time you use them. We use stands for tire changes, oil changes, lubing the chain, other kinds of maintenance, and obviously at the track. We have a bike lift in the garage now, but we have more than one bike, and only one lift, so the stands still get used a lot.

They are also AWESOME for cleaning the bike. None of this rolling the bike back and forth while you try to get to the hard to reach places on the wheels.

That's 95% of the reason I want stands!

I know a few guys with Handy stands and Rider is the first person I have ever heard talk bad about them. Of coarse most peeps that have them haven't used Pitbulls. Once you even hold a pitbull... all others seem...cheap and weak.
