idle adjust knob...

i have a 98 900rr...when i drive i usually shift around 5k unless im riding it hard, so i come to a red light today and notice the needle was bouncing around a lot and not idling steady id say it was goin back and forth between 1000-5 or 600...so i adjusted the idle knob a little to bring it up to around 1-1.2 and got on the highway and noticed what i was shifting at was around 6k i only noticed cause i looked but it sounded like the old 5k i would shift at if this makes any sence....i need to know where is best to have the idle at and what rpm its best to shift at (normal riding)

The best place to have your idle set is where it has the very little hesitation when you blip the throttle. My best guess is anywhere between 700-1500 rpm

Service Manual. It will tell you. It should also say on one of the warning stickers that came on your bike...if they are still there. Mine is under the seat.

my 03 CBR 600RR is supposed to be at 1300 +/- 100. I keep mine at 1200. Not sure on the 98 900RR.
