Synthetic oil,a brief review

Well,I've dedicated myself this Summer to try different syn oils to see what I like best and here are the results;

Amsoil 20w50 $8 a quart sold only thru indy Amsoil dealers
higher viscosity=lower engine noise
inconsistant color
felt "rough" after 2500 miles

Suzuki 20w50 $7 a quart mc dalerships only
higher viscosity=lower engine noise
VERY inconsistant color
shifted rough 2000 miles

Mobil One 4XT 10w40 $8 a quart sold everywhere(Auto zone,Napa,etc)
lower viscosity=higher engine noise
high quality
forgot about it past 3500 miles and changed out of habit. I was tempted to put the used oil in my quad,it looked/felt almost new!

Repsol 4T 10w50 $13 a liter mc dealerships only
starts out loud but quiets down quickly
super high quality
built-in pouring tube
my bike hold 3 liters so I only bought 3L vs 4qt for the others
1100 miles so far and no problems

For the record,I've also used Maxima 20w50,Clutch Saver 20w50, Golden Spectro 10w50 and Royal Purple 20w50,etc.

So far in the price vs quality dept,I have to give it to Mobil One! Plus, factoring in the availability of the product makes it a clear winner in my book! If you don't mind Fram filters, you can get out of Autozone for about $40 which isn't bad for a synthetic oil change.

I use Shell Rotella Full Syn 5w40..

The color comes out the same way it goes in.. Very quiet and shifts are smoother and quieter..

After 3000 miles it still Looks/Feels brand new and is 4$ a quart..

And you can get it anywhere..

I was thinking about switching over to synthetic. Are there any cons to doing so? Other than price I'm guessing.

The only problem I've had with car specific syn oil in the past was clutch slippage. I take it you haven't had any such problems?

i only use synthetic on the car. the bike gets oil changed too often which doesn't justify the extra $ synthetics. i've used valvoline regular oil on my race bikes without any problems, therefore, i use it for my street bike.

You know what's funny? That was EXACTLY my attitude before! I used to change my oil every 1000-1500 miles myself and used Castrol GTX 20w50. I'm hoping to start changing my oil every 3500-5000 miles as the manual suggests but I'm leary because I am so programed the other way.
