idle issues

ok, well now that I got the bike going and legal, I need some help on the fuel delivery. what's happening is when I start the motor, it idles just fine at normal idle rpm, right around 1000 or so, then it just jumps up consistently to around 3-4k without fail, and has a lean spot as it feels around 4krpm or so, everywhere else in the range is fine.

I know its not an air leak, or I would have noticed it. anyone got some insight?

remember, I have NO gauges on my bike, and dont know exact rpm.

I would try to raise the needle in the carb one slot if the needles are adjustable or use a tiny spacer/looks like a washer if there isnt a clip and slot. Should richen up the midrange a little bit.

God I hate carb tuning!! takes to freaking long and as soon as you get it just right BAM the weather changes and you have to start over!

just take your time. you might want to check the float levels too!

floats are right, I know that because I set them myself. I think what I need to do, is increase my jet size on both pilot and mains one size up.

I blame most of the freakin problem on the carbs being Mikuni POS carbs. I vastly prefer my Keihin CVKs like the EX500 uses to these damned things. anyone got a set of them Keihins they wanna trade?

I found the culprit. needed a good nights sleep to forget my frustration and relax a bit, but it was my mains were stock size, but not really because of the amount of crap plugging them. I put my new main jets in and its a whole new bike. it probably also didnt help that the needle in the slide on one of the carbs was stuck out of its hole somehow.

I now have new jets in it, carbs tuned and synched, and its running GREAT.

ok, well I have the idle issue flawlessly fixed, but now it wont rev past 2000 rpm for crap in gear. I'm really starting to get mad with this crap. those Keihin's from an EX500 are starting to look better and better all the freakin time.
