Replacing Factory Decals

I got to looking on bikebandit.com and found my make and model and compared the decals they have in the schematics to the ones on my bike. The dip ***** before me mounted stuff on the back and took some of the decals off. Now I want to order new ones and put them on. My question is in order to do this, will I have to sand the area down and then have it clear coated and painted again? or can I just degrease the area and slap the new decal on?

Guess it depends if they were under the clear to begin with. They're supposed to last longer under the clear (less fading/catching), but other than that I don't think it really matters.

Run your fingernail along the edge of the decal, if your fingernail catches the edge real easily, no clear coat... If it slides over the edge and onto the graphic, it's clear coated.
