bike noise, is it normal???

Hey everyone. Hows everyone doing? I have a question about my kawi 650r. My bike would make a sound like how a car sounds like when its fan turns on. Im not sure if im being clear. lets see. its like when a car reach a certain temperature and then the fan turns on for a couple of minute then turns off, that kind of noise. Is that normal on all bikes? Because i dont know think bikes have fans, maybe im wrong.

When does it happen? Are you sitting at a red light? If the bike gets too hot it has a fan it will turn on to cool it back down and then the fan will turn off.

your bike is trying to cool itself down. it'll do this on hot days, or if you are not moving fast in traffic. or letting your bike idle for long period of time. your engine is party cooled by airflow, when there is no air rushing over the engine to cool it down, your fan comes in in an attempt to create airflow to lower the temp.

yeah it comes on when im usually at a stop. It sounds like a fan turns on to cool down the temp. then after a minute or so it goes away. then it comes back on later, just like how a car is when it sits, the fan turns on then after a minute or two it turns off then i guess at certain temp it comes back on. I wasnt sure if bikes work the same way as a car. My brother has a sv650 and he said he never experience that noise. My bike is an 08 model so im not sure it is suppose to do that.

oh by the way thanks for taking time out of your schedule to help me with this concern.

no worries, that was an easy one. If you think the fan is coming off at improper times (ie the temp is really high for apparently no reason) you may want to check your fluid levels.

Ahoy! What color did you opt for? I picked up an 06 last year in silver, they are beautiful rides. (Upon reading a couple posts down I notice that it is green, smokin hot)

Its just an electric fan on the radiator. If you think the 650R fan is odd, ride an air cooled buell. Those things run even after you shut the key off.

Yea, I noticed that about 15 seconds after the initial post. As far as the fan goes, I dont think I've ever noticed mine come on, not much stop and go here with out 2 stop lights.
