yamaha FZR 600

I am having trouble getting my 600 to run. there was a short in the wiring harness and so I traced that out and found some wires were crossing up by the switch causing there to be an open loop. I fixed that and now everything works (lights, horn, turn signal, and engine cranks,) except I am still not getting any spark. everybody tells me the CDI never goes bad on these bikes but does anybody have any ideas? whenever the key is on the CDI starts heating up and getting really warm to the touch and I do not think that is normal. another thing it is not the coils I took and had them tested and they were good. does anybody have any ideas that I could check before dumping 400 hundred dollars on a new CDI?
