Caliper stuck to rotor after changing
This is for a '01 YZF600R
I just changed out my rear caliper everything went smooth in the install, and I did bleed the system. The guy I bought it from said it worked fine, and was barely used off an '03 (and it looked that way too).
After I put it on, I never really checked anything. Didn't even bother rolling the bike because it was getting dark and fast. I did check for leaks and that checked out. I went to roll my bike today to put a new filter in and it was almost impossible to move. I had to put almost my entire weight just to have the bike roll a few inches. I fired up the bike, put it in 1st, let out some clutch to get the bike to roll, and the bike stopped the second I pulled the clutch in the bike stopped. It didn't roll at all.
I took the caliper off and cleaned the entire thing included pistons to where they moved in and out easily. Reinstalled it and still no luck! It's doing the same thing. I put the old caliper back on (which worked fine before) and now THAT'S doing it too! Even after bleeding!
I moved the adjuster bolt all the way up, that definitely didn't work.
I moved it all the way down, it worked better if I didn't push the brake lever super hard. But once I pressed it really hard I was right back where I started...stuck.
Do you think changing the pads would make any difference?
I don't think it's the caliper, because the original one worked fine, I just changed it out because it was scratched and was an eye sore. But I tried putting it back on and it doesn't work.
One thing that I did notice. When I took the pads out of the original caliper there were no shims on the back of them. And when I took the pads out of the new caliper (very worn down, not useable) I noticed that they DID have shims on the back of them. I thought that was weird that the original pads didn't have shims on the back so I took shims off of one set of pads and put them on another. Do you think that could cause it to stick? I don't see how, but I'm out of ideas.
