New tire -> shakey steering

I've owned my 92 zx6 for about 3 and a half years, and this is the second new tire that I've put on.
At first it was a battleax, then a qualifier, and now I switched to a shinko raven to increase tread life, and I don't really ride that hard...
Before I replaced the front tire, I could basically go for miles without holding the steering, assuming it was a somewhat smooth road.
Now, the steering shakes all the time.
It's especially noticeable between 45 and 50 mph, but I can still feel it above and below that.
I brought it back to the shop to make sure they had balanced it correctly, but they said it was balanced. They also said the bearings seemed to be good.
I've also made sure the steering column was tight.
Still, I can't find out the problem.
Any advice out there for me?
