SV gas tank Vent

I went out to ride this morning and stopped at the gas station to fill up my bike. I left the gas station hit the onramp to the interstate pulled up a wheelie next thing I know my crotch is soaked with gas!! I just figured I filled up the tank too much and some gas just spilled out. I hit the interstate and gas was just gushing out of the top of the tank. I knew something was wrong, so I went to my work and got my tools out. My gas tank vent line is not welded to the top of the tank anymore. i gotta figure out someway to fix it. Attached are some pics of the line and hole. I put a yellow arrow to indicate where the line should go thru the hole. You can get a better view in the gallery.

That sucks man. Are you sure its welded? Most are just clamped on. You have to take the pump out of the bottom to get to it.

The service guy at the suzuki shop said its spot welded. The hose won't come thru the hole at all, only flush mounted with the hole, so I'm thinking the suzuki service guy is right. I can take a pair of pliers and screwdriver to get the hose up to the hole..I just need a welder.
I sent these pics to my brother which he has a 2000 SVS and should be the same. He said when he gets home tonight he will take pics of his and email them to me.

I guess it will have to be welded then.
You might try taking the tank off, puling the pump, let dry, and JB weld or liquid steal. What ever its called where you live. It would be a biotch to get a welder to.

First off... get some better pics loaded up!!!

Second... if everything is true... unless you find a place that welds on gas tanks I don't think you'll find a average welder that will want to weld on that!

But the best thing to do is like Jeeps said... take it off drain it and get it preped. In the mean time... stay on 2 wheels!

I am takeing it to ,y painter/welder in maryland next weekend. As long as we can get one decient spot weld on top and atleast get a tig weld I will be ok. We are going to drain the tank, then fill it with water to get rid of the gas and fumes, then after everything is done we will blow air in the tank to get all the water out, let it sit in the sun for awhile should be ok.

That's a small hole to get a welder to. Even through the larger hole on the bottom for the fuel pump.

I don't plan on takeing the pipe out...I plan on holding the pipe up to the hole with some pliers and just sparking a quick weld just enough to make the pipe stick to the tank.

Hey when I come home smelling like gas, she knows I haven't been with any other women...that's for sure!

But seriously... be glad it wasn't fuel like diesel.... not many people know how to get that smell out of clothes. Gasoline smell... just let it air out. If you don't want to do that...

My Gas Man tip of the day... To get out gas or fuel smell out of clothes... spray the smelly stain with Simple Green. Then wash by itself with soap on normal cycle and POOF... no more smell!

I hope all that mixture doesn't irritate the boys. If you had got lucky. I bet the luck wouldn't pull through.

I'm tellilng you...from somebody that works in the gas industry...simple green works. Febreeze might work for gas but won't work for any type of fuel.

I couldn't help but ride today with my gas vent hose messed up. Yesterday I text messaged a guy that I met on some back roads on a R1 Raven 2 months ago. He had called like 5 times and everytime I was out of town and I really felt bad. Well I told him to call me if he was going out this weekend. So he did. Three of us went ripping up some roads, and I am over here getting drenched in gasoline. Letting the tank be 1/2 full really helps out alot, but if I pull up a wheelie or do a stoppie I am getting soaked. Oh well I really gotta get a temporary fix for this. I think I lost a 1/2 tank today spilling out on my crotch!

it didn't matter too much, when pressure builds up in the tank it just flows out anway.
