Update on the ZX1000 motor problem

Today I took the oil pan off, and cleaned out a bunch of shrapnel, looked like someone threw a grenade in there or something theres that much loose metal, and one conrod let go on the crank end, which is why it wont turn over in the proper direction. I got a piece of conrod end, a bolt, two nuts, and two chunks of piston skirt with it in the oil pan. it appears everything else is fine, so the previous owner either revved this thing to somewhere beyond redline, or it was a freak occurance of some kind.

I really hope I dont need to stick a new motor in. those things are crazy expensive items. considering the motor and tranny on mine seems to be a one piece assembly, I think I'll just replace the damaged parts, clean it out real good, put in fresh bearings and pray to the gods of power.

well, after pulling hte piston out, it looks like all I need is a conrod, the piston is fine, but the conrod, and bolts to it, are fubar.

I found someone who has a set of 4 conrods, a crank, as well as a cylinder, and good pistons, so I'm just replacing all of that at once, considering the price I'm getting, which is less than $100 for all of it.

now for my next question. on my carbs, when I got the bike, there were and still are a few rubber lines missing. could someone tell me what the little nipple between the two carbs is for? the one in the picture thats missing a rubber line. also, what the heck does it do, where does it go? I looked in my repair manual, and it doesnt show anything about it. thanks in advance, y'all are the best help ever.

I've got the bike like 99% done now, just gotta put oil in it, and refill the cooling system. then I'll post another update to let y'all know how it turned out. hoping it runs well soon.

To the best of my knowledge, (it has been a long long time) those are vent ports. A J tube came off of those and it was probably about 2 to 3 inches long. If you were to turn the carbs upside down, most of the fuel in the float bowl would dump right out of those ports. Now, this is gonna sound strange but, I had mixed results running with those tubes off. I think they keep positive pressure in the float bowls. The J bend helps in some way because I would have fuel seeping out of those ports in my old race bike. Take that from a baseline of a 117 degree plus track temps in Phoenix on an FZR600, 1990 model. Anyone out there that knows EXACTLY what those are, please feel free to correct me.
I hope that helps some.
