SV oil

Yay, another oil thread! My SV will be due for an oil change in about 500 miles and since I'm ordering sprockets, tools, a tire, and a chain from kneedraggers already I figured I should just order some oil at the same time. This will be my first oil change with her and I don't know what she likes (synth or reg). I noticed that most of the oils on kneedraggers are for 4 cyl motors and since the SV is a v-twin I figured I should try to get some oil made specifically for this type of bike. svrider.com has a list of oil filters that I can use but they don't say much about oil. What do you recommend?

OIL- thats a big can of worms youre about to open.

i just use 10W 40 Suzuki oil from a local shop. Not because it "suzuki oil" (ooooh), but because its the easiest to find JASO- MA oil around. The FRAM PH6018 oil filter at any autoparts store will fit the SV too.

I have heard great things about amsoil 20W-50 made for v-twins. You need to make sure you get the v-twin stuff for sure.

However, I would not suggest the syn so soon.

Remember when switching to syn oil... "you can always wait" or "no rush"

I use Castrol Syntec 10W-40. It meets all of the requirements set forth by the owner's manual.

Castrol is good oil, I've used it for many years! If you don't believe me tell me how my 94 firebird has 244,000 miles and still going strong.

I was at the stealership a couple of days ago so I just got a gallon of the zuk blood and a filter so that will hold me over until I can find a better place to get it. Also picked up some more chain lube so I'll be ready when the time comes to put my new chain on in the near future....and fyi I got the Honda chain lube this time since that was recommended in a different thread...

I was going to ask you if you'd found anything good. Thought maybe we could split a case or somthing since we both have the SV's. but at this point you're probably not going to buy before you move....
