factory recals cover the bike for the original factory warranty period and covers for all recalled items no matter if you are the original owner or the second or third owner.... if you are not the original owner you won;t get the recalls in the mail but you are entitled to the trecalled service...

Recalls are covered by the factory and administered at the dealership free of charge. It doesn't matter if your the first owner, or the 60th owner. It doesn't matter if the bike is 1 year old with 5 miles on it or 24 years old with 88,432 miles on it. If there is a recall on the bike they MUST fix it.

As a matter of fact... if you take the bike or car into the dealer for ANY work and there are outstanding recalls for that vechicle. They are NOT allowed to release that vechicle until all the recalls are up to date. Its the law man!

Just curious, but how can you tell if the recall work was done? What if the owner didn't give you any paperwork (assuming they had some dealer work done, and it seems that the dealer has to do the recall work). Does the dealer mark the bike somewhere stating that the tensioner was replaced?

Only records I know of are a database kept by the manufacture. Your best bet would be to call your local dealer with the VIN and have them check the records.
