suzuki warranty question

long story short, my school required me to put a parking permit on the fork and i was stupid and put it on the lower inner tube.
now the seal is busted. dealership doesn't know this, so i took it in. well the factory warranty doesn't cover it, but my extended does IF the part is considered defective. however extended doesnt come into affect until factory is over in August 08. so now the dealer is gonna try to call suzuki to see if they can do anything about this. if so, suzuki is gonna come and inspect it before they take responsibility.
will they be able to tell what happened? or are they only looking for signs of misuse like wheelies and such, cuz i dont stunt at all.
shop gave me a rough estimate of $300 to change the fork seal, so im hoping suzuki would give me a break

$300 for fork seals??? Thats insane. It would be far less if you take the forks off the bike yourself. Then its only $125 to do the seals with the forks off the bike.

Not sure if they can tell you had a sticker on the fork, but if its not covered its not the end of the world.

Learn to do it yourself. That 300 bucks is out of line.

well the dealer called me just right now and said since my bike has low miles and theres no signs of stunting, suzuki would likely cover it.
as far as doing it myself, ppl on a gsxr forum told me it wasn't worth it to do it myself if i didn't have any experience
wish me luck!

Only one way to learn, Grasshopper. Try it yourself, and if you screw it up, you are no worse off.

$300 is butt rape for changing a seal. Ask around locally, and I guarantee there is a shade tree somewhere that would do it for less than half that.

haha yea....well the dealer got back to me and they found bits of the sticker! so they don't know if suzuki will ask for the busted seal later on in the future. if they do, they probably won't cover it. the dealer re-quoted me @ $135...

Forks on the bike or off? That's a big drop from $300. Unless they're trying to get paid both ways- from you and Suzuki

$135 sounds about right. Seals + one hour of labor and oil.

yea thats what i thought. but actually it would make sense for a business to ask for defective parts so that they can look at it and prevent future defects. but the damn chick already told suzuki that it was caused from an outside source rather than defect, so suzuki was like "naw man, we ain't coverin' that s#!t..." so it stands at $135...

Did they also tell you you need to change your blinker fluid? Gotta change the blinker fluid.

Sounds like they were going to try to fluck suzuki if they were able to get it warrantied (aka they were going to lie about labor times) but they got shot down. Sounds like a really reputable bunch of folks.

yea, the sticker thing, it was a while back when i didn't know jack about forks
but i only took it to the dealer b/c i thought that warranty was gonna cover it. didn't know they were gonna find the evidence
but i picked it up today and the price dropped down again to $100 flat, so i don't know whats the deal?

My buddy had a jackass MECHANIC who actually put an inspection sticker on the fork slider. Of course, it caused a leak for him too.

I watched carefully when I got my bike inspected. If the tech had put the sticker on the slider, I would have punched him. There's no excuse- that's obviously a moving part.

I have my mechanic put mine way up under the fairing...that way should I decide not to get it inspected the next year it's not as noticable.
