Headlight bulb question

I have a '01 R1 and looking for a brighter headlight. What do you guys recommend? The reason I asked is because the service manager at Criswell Powersports told me that he's seen 3 of their customers burned the socket because of I think HID lightbulb (if I remember it right). I want something brighter than stocks, that's going to last and won't get me stuck in the dark because it burned something. Thanks.

Don't install them wrong and they won't burn everything up. HIDs are nice btw. I have em, as you can tell by my sig pic where my bike is blinding the camera man.

Trip, the one you have is awesome. How much did that cost? Do you think even just the lightbulb upgrade would be good enough?

I have HIDs, you can't just put the bulb in, you have to use a ballast/igniter setup. Some ballasts have the igniters built in. Mine ran $139.

I have a slim ballast DDM HID kit. You need to know your bulb size and what temperature you want the bulbs to be. 4300K is the brightest, 6000K is said to be the "prettiest" because it's got a blue hue to it. I got 4500K because that's the brightest they offered in the kit I chose.

This is the kit I have:

Hey Trip, I don't mean running HID lightbulbs alone. I'm talking about something like PIAA light bulbs. You know, the ones that are 55watts but puts out higher wattage. Did I get it right? Sorry, not too familiar with them. I've seen the bulbs for like $25. I just don't know how good they are and how long they last. But like I said, the one thing I want to make sure is that it won't go out on me while I'm out there in the middle of nowhere. Just wondering if you've heard from people that have them. Thanks again.

I replaced my bulb with a xenon 'HID' bulb, but they aint true HID's. Went from a 60/55w to a 100/90w. They are brighter but nothing compared to the true HID's like Trips. I may go true HID's tho, I like to see wtf I am going :lol

I have them in my R6, had them since I got it since that was the first change I made (I can't see at night well with contacts in). But I haven't burned out anything and since moving to El Paso, a lot of others who have seen the bike have gotten them in theirs.
