Rear Suspension

I have a 97 600 GSXR, I had the swing arm extended 9 inches and a 200 tire installed, relocated the license plate and cut the fender to the tail light. Installed a set of dog bones to pull the bike back down level from the extension on the swing arm. Now my problem, I can't ride my lady cause the bike bottoms out and if I crack the throttle really hard with just me on it it bottoms out. My mechanic says my shock is worn out but my bike only has 11000 miles on it and even if I put a shock off of a 1000 on it I wont be able to ride double any more. Any suggestions on fixing this problem without my bike looking like a drag car jacked up in the back end?

1 your mechanic is an idoit.

2 thats the nature of the beast you just made out of your bike. You're either going to have raise it for the added weight of the passenger or ditch the stretched swingarm.

I agree with pg. You may be able to raise it some and be able to ride 2up and still maintain that look you are after.

I dont know about your bike, but most shocks you can tighten and expand the coil. Try raising it and tightening it, other than that just raise the sucka.

2002 ZX6R, Shark Skinz, custom paint, Ignition advance plate, Shift kit, Yoshimura TRS Full race with Duplex header, K&N, 14/40 gear and sprocket, Ivans jet kit and Dyno tune for 103hp at the wheel. 110hp with 110 octane!

11000 miles and it should be worn out.

Remove the gay swingarm and put the straight one back on.

So he is not in your guys' little good ole boys club.... give him a break. Not everyone is into the same crap you are, its a fact of life. No need to rip on this dude for it..

Stiffer spring on there, crank the preload all the way up, maybe a couple shims to bring it up some.

Yeah... I mean the reason we are dogging him has nothing to do with the fact that his mod DECREASES the performance of his bike.

It's just cause we have a boys club.

DO THA SECRET HANDSHAKE!

tighten the rear preload. there is a large locking nut that needs to be loosened. your bike's tool kit should have a spanner wrench for the job.

it should look like this:

it will compress the spring and make it more rigid (also raises the ride height as it tightens).
if you can't find one, a large flat head screw driver and a hammer will do...

Maybe we don't like your gay GSXR with the D&D and LEDs on it or your race skinned SV650s.

Different strokes for different folks.
