600 to 750 Engine Swap

Set-Up: A friend of mine wrecked his Kat 750. He is OK but the bike is toast. He asked if I wanted to buy the engine to put in my Kat 600.

Question: Is it possible / adviseable to swap a 600 for a 750 on a Katana? Both bikes have been maintained well.

Thanks,

I dont know if your bikes are the same years, but if they are, the swap MAY be easy.

if you're not mechanically inclined though, dont even ATTEMPT it.

Thanks for the concern about my mechanical ability. I can handle any mechanical task except welding, and I know people who can do that for me.

So, it's mostly a function of mounting? What about the exhaust? His is no good. (anymore)

they MAY work between motors, but I'm not 100% sure of it. measure everything first.

If you are going to swap a motor. I'd swap in a GSXR750/600 before a Katana 750 motor. Which I think would be a cool sleeper if feasable. To me it doesn't seem worth the hassel to just drop in a Katana750. I'm not sure how much you'd gain from going to a 750 but unless it allows my Katana to hang with a sport 600 then why? Why go through a lot of effort to put in a 750 motor when all you'll do is hang with other stock Katana 750s.

I'd get the both the Katana 750 and 600 Manuels and read them over to see if there is much of a difference. Also if hte bikes are the same frame then I dont' see why it wouldn't fit.

Kat's were largely the same up until the re-design...which I believe was somewhere around 1998 or so. In theory it should be a relatively easy swap.

biggest trick with that would be finding a place for the radiator and such.
