Lose the race lose your ride

So i watched PINKS on Speed the other day. The first episode was between a Formula Firebird and a Z28. This was the second episode and it was an old GS 1100 vs a HD VROD. For those who arent familiar, the show pits 2 cars/bikes/whatever in 3 dragraces. They negociate lengths/ head starts, use of nitrous etc. The winner of 2 of 3 takes the others vehicle home with them, hence "pinks".

race 1- They race heads up and the VROD takes the GS by 4 bike lengths. GS rider says it was a bad start but accepts the loss.

race 2- They run heads up again and the GS takes the HD by 4 lengths.

race 3- HD rider says his clutch is overheated and wants time to let cool. GS man says no. HD asks for 3 lenghts then. They decide on 15 min to cool clutch and 1 length. They race and the GS takes the VROD in the last 100'.

Denoument- The GS man hops on his new VROD and the HD man trailers his empty trailer home. I say that GS was a sound investment. Stock for $3,000 mabye and won a near $20,000 bike with it. Boy was that guy pissed to lose his bike.

I wouldn't dare race for pinks unless I knew for sure I was going to win, but I doubt I would ever do this.

I missed the show, is it going to be worth watching next week? In other words, did you like the show?

The first ep was annoying. only joy i got from it was watching the whiny guy lose his car. The second one was much better, so it may be a crap shoot. Eitherway someone loses big time.

Back in my...er...er...days when I wasn't the fine upstanding citizen y'all know and love today...I had some of the most awesome rides out there...I went in with a couple of guys and we built a 55 chevy into a "F" Gasser (they ran classes in those days) We took it to the US Nationals at Indy 4 times and finished 2nd once...My first ride was a 1968 Superbee...It was a sleeper...I put a 273 gear in the rear and it would do 120 in 3rd. (4spd) My first racer was a 1966 SS Chevy with a 396 punched out to 402... I won 2 camaros and a firebird with it. I lost it to Buddy Ingersoll who was driving a 70 Olds 442 and he later took that 442 and won his class at the US Nationals at Indy. I took one of the Camaros, it was a 70 rally sport, and put the LT1 350/360 motor in it. It was light and strong and did pretty well. It was a Z-car killer. I lost it to a hemi charger...That's when I bought the Challenger with the 426 and after a few mods, it was the baddest rod in the valley. Today, I have a '69 Mach I with the 351C motor. It is an investment car that sits in the barn...I bought it from the original owner and it has 63K on the clock... The funniest thing about all these cars is...They were cheap!!
When I bought the Challenger, I paid $2700.00 for it. Most of the hot rods in those days sold for 5K or less...My first Corvette, a 1975 model was $10,200. off the showroom floor Boy have things changed...

Do they dyno the bikes before-hand? It seems to me you could sand bag the hell out of that. Get a 300hp busa, let them win the first race by a length or so. You win the next by a nose. Then on the third. .

I get the MJ joke...
Yeah now these SS cars almost go for $50k or more.
My dad had all these Super Sport cars and GTO's with the big 400s in them, he's always saying I wish I never got rid of it. but the gas crises.....blah blah blah.

He bought 2 firebirds one in 94 which is mine now, and he still has his 99, my older bro just bought a corvette, so now I think my dad is going to buy a new vette. I'm sure he will complain about that too...they're just not built like they were. He has too many cars as it is he just needs to sell some of them.

edit-->>> I guess I'm no better I have 3 vehicles myself.

No dyno, and no 1/4 mile times. The opponent inspect your vehicle and watches your practice run. Just races and negotiations. Sandbagging is all part of it. But you never know whose doing it the most. Thats why theres three races i guess.
According to ep one, if they cant find your nitrous, you dont have to tell em you have it etc.

No, you have to be good...In those days, you could look a car over and tell about how much HP was there...Today, with computer controlled everything, it is much harder to look a car over and tell what you are up against. What good is owning a street racer and bragging about its mods or performance unless you are willing to put up or shut up?? I think they call those people, Posers or wannabes?? It's the same way in life...show it, or shut it...
