99 R1 Tranny Prob

Jus like to say hi, im a noob here but love the site.
Question is, a friend of mine has a 99 R1 with a Yosh can and a sprocket kit. Wants to sell it cheap cuz it has a "2nd gear prob" like most of his bikes end up with, he wants $4600 and the milage is low, but is it worth it to fix it at that price or should i pass it and just spent the extra 2500 for a diff one? BTW those are Canadain Prices

Chances are that's gonna have to be replaced. Yam's had a second gear problem back then, so it may be reoccuring. It will be cheap if you do it yourself and expensive as hell if you pay to have it done. I'd honestly look elsewhere. i would never buy a bike that i have to work on immediately.

DO NOT get that bike.

The LARGEST problem with sportbikes is that the motor and tranny share the same case. If you have to split the case to fix the 2nd gear (which I believe you will have to) it WILL SUCK BAD!!!

I'd rather jump into a Lion's den with porkchop earrings than buy this bike.
