I sold my 2003 R1 last Wednesday night. rickmancc kept offering me $1500 for the bike, which I had to turn him down because I knew I could make more out of the bike parting it out. Rick told someone about the bike and the guy called me up last Wedneday night and said he typically buys wrecked bikes for $1500-$2200. At first I turned him down, then I told him we could work something out. So he met me over at Ricks Wednesday night and he said he would take the bike for $2000 cash the way it sits. After looking at the bike in Ricks garage again I thought it is really beat up and I don't have the time right now to tear it apart with the new house thing going on, and until my collar bone heals I can't wrench anything anyway. So I told the guy he has a deal.
He counted out the $2,000 cash and handed it to me, then I slipped $100 of it to Rick since he picked the bike up for me after my wreck and stored it into his garage for 2 weeks. Rick has always hooked up up with tires and service work on the bike, so I thought that was a fair deal. So my total profit was $1900. I'd say I broke even from buying the bike back from the insurance company last year and what new parts I put into the bike this year for getting it back up on the road.
The good news is I still have the new yellow front nose cone that is in perfect condition, 2 new front wheel fenders 02-03 R1 and the R6 rear tail section and left and right lowers that are brand new that I got earlier this year when the guy I bought parts off on ebay f'd up my entire order and never wanted them back when I got my refund from Paypal. So I figure I can still make about $500-$600 off these parts on ebay.
I put all the money in my Savings account for my next bike fund. My g/f thought I was going to use that money for the new house to buy some things....
I don't think so! I will always have a bike!
So once things calm down and I see how my money flows with the new house and mortgage I'll save up what I can for a new or slightly used bike.
