1992 Yamaha FZR 600 - Thoughts?

My husband and I have been watching the Craigslist ads recently to find me a bike. Today he found a 1992 Yamaha FZR 600 for $2000 with 37606 miles on it. The plastics are scratched...but you cannot tell how bad in the pictures. We are going to go look at it this weekend. (my birthday is Sunday so I told my husband it would make a GREAT birthday present! )

Anyway...this will be my first bike. Thoughts about price, the bike, common problems with that bike to look for, anything helpful...thanks!

BTW - My husband is very into bikes but has only owned Suzukis so tips from you Yamaha folks would be great.

I really can see myself spend that much money on a sport bike with that many miles on it. The bike is also 15 years old. You can find bikes around the year 2000 that cheap or a little more just gotta keep your eyes pealed.

I had a 96 fzr 600..... it is a very forgiving bike throttle wise... you can twist it and not snap your kneck... but it will accelerate fast enough to get you up to speed in a second... great starter bike and with a asking price of 2k offer $1600-$1700

NADA says low retail $1200 average retail $1630 used dealer price $4000

M ileage is nothing just see how it runs and feels...... I had my FZR for 3 years and I put on 20,000 in three years.... 100miles a day to and from work and then the time off in the twisties........

He sold that...he wanted to get as much money as possible out of that bike and buy me a cheaper one. Plus arn't the older 600 less powerful than the newer ones?

Ah i was goin on the assumption he still had it. Yes they are but not that much. Actually on the low end my old 88 Hurricane had more punch than my F4 does. Grant it the 88 had a few mods.

But far as price goes thats a lil hi. I bought my 00 F4 for $2700 n $300 delivered to me.
