Hopefully we get a gigantic lean one way to make this easy and we can get rates as fast as possible. If you have another option, please voice it.

I voted For Maggie of course. There is lots of places to go and close to Gatlinburg, Pigeonforge and Townsend. The list of possible destinations would take way more that a week or two just to see the sites other than the obvious Dragon.

It's more of a HOW do we want to do it. If we do it ourselves, dates are less relevant. If we want to piggy back with another group, then that narrows down our dates. So, do you want it to be just TWF, or make it easier for the guys and piggyback with a bunch of strangers.

Judging from previous discussions with Jeeps, I'd guess (I'm not from the area) Maggie Valley is the valley that stretches from the gap area down towards Gaitlinburg. So More than 5 minutes, but not significant. You want to warm up your tires before the dragon anyway.

well it looks like you have a lien towards Maggie so far, i was waiting to see what the consensus was too since I dont know anything up there...but since Jeeps said Maggie valley is near lots of other things (shopping, i hope) i would rather go there, esp since there should be plenty of choices on eating as well in a populated area...what can I say...shopping and food...

Good call on eating Rae... cause there wasn't that much just outside the gap in Tenn.

maggie valley is not an easy ride to the gap like fontana or townsend, but you do get to ride some nice roads to get to the gap from it.

You can see distances here, fontana is a lot closer than any of these. However, maggie valley is the most populated location and it's a lot easier to get the beer/alcohol you want.

I think those of us planning on taking a week of vacation to play would definately prefer the whole set up at maggie valley, those only comming for the weekend rally, would probably prefer something closer.

depends on what you want to do when your not riding or if you don't plan on not riding. I have stayed in Maggie Valley and Townsend. If you are going for other attractions besides riding, I hate to go against jeeps, but I would rather stay in Townsend. In easy range of the dragon, pigeon forge, foothills parkway, cade's cove, gatlinburg, the national park, and maryville/knoxville are pretty close if you want to hit up a city.
