Will Ducati eventually make a 798??

The 1098 is one bad ass bike!!! I want one sooooo bad!!! I'd almost get one if I my GF didn't have my baby on the way!!! But I want to stay with a 750 to 800 size bike so I was wondering if Ducati has plans for a super-middle weight. So if Ducati makes one, I am going to sell my VFR800A and get a Duc!!

All signs at this point are that there will be an 848 in late 2007/early 2008, but nothing yet on a price or which trim levels will be offered. My personal guess is there will only be higher trim levels of the smaller model, and it will not be significantly cheaper than the 1098. There might only be an 848S and 848R for example..... It won't cost any less to make than the 1098, so I don't know if there will be a market for an 848 at $14,995, but I'll bet racers and track day riders will definitely buy an 848S for $16,995. We'll see what they come up with, but probably won't know for sure for several months. If they make an 848R that has all of the cool racing bits on it that my 749R has, I'll be severly tempted.....

Maybe right but I'd love to see it.

It's the opposite actually, MotoGP bikes are required to be custom prototype racing machines and can't share major design elements with production models. It's World Superbike and World Supersport that have to be based off of production models, and right now World Supersport allows up to 750cc twins, although that is rumored to be increasing. If that changes to allow larger machines, that will make the 848 even more likely.
