Calif. says you must be 16 to ride one.

Under a California law set to go into effect next month, it could soon be illegal for most children and teens to drive the mini-motorcycles, which are popularly known as "pocket bikes."

Law enforcement agencies across the state are trying to get out the word that beginning January 1, pocket bike riders in California will have to be at least 16 years old and have a valid class C driver's license or learner's permit to take a spin on the stylish, shrunken versions of popular motorcycle models.

heres the rest

This won't stop them from riding these though..the cops chase these people all the time already. It's just another way to get a joy ride thrill, but it gives them more leverage for more harsh punishments if/when they get caught.

They should arrest, ticket and fine the parents, They buy the bikes and allow the kids to ride them unsupervised. If you buy beer for someone under age, you can be charged with contributing to the deliquency of a minor. If you are stupid enough to buy one of these bikes and allow the kids to ride them unsupervised, you are doing the same thing. You are contributing to the breaking of the law. Don't tell me this is apples and oranges, it is the same, these bikes end up out in the street in traffic with some 10 year old going 40 MPH through the neighborhood

Just give the cop the finger and keep on riding. Heck if you're not 16 they can't give you a ticket!!

Actually, in Cali if u get a traffic ticket at under 16... and u can get em, then u dont get the licesne until u are 18. So it would be dumb to ride and get caught cuz it'll keep ya out of gettign a cage at 16 and pretyt much through high school.

And NV is doing the same thing, Jan 1st ANYONE reguardless of age is gonna be required to have a licesne to ride it as well as blinkers and the works or youll get ticketed.
Kinda over the top i htink though, u hear all about how dangerous they are, but i have yet to hear about a real accident involving a PB

Ive tried to sit on a PB before, but never road one. The salesman said its alot easier to ride it, than to actually try and just sit on it and feel comfortable. I took his word for it.

I was talking to him about this very problem, counties/states cracking down on these bikes as well. Sooner or later, there will be stiffer and stiffer penalities for these kids who continue to be a nuisance, and not ride responsibly.
