I understand your dad is concerned but this accident wasnt your fault from what you've told us.
we were all sixteen once. remember back when you knew everything?
honestly I think the only thing that is needed here is some instruction and experience, not a speed limiter.

saverok sounds like you dad needs to get you proper gear instead of worring so much about the speed limiter. then get you in to a proper MSF class.

The MSF course may be boring, but at least it'll show you're dad that you've learned how to ride safely and then hopefully he'll forget all about the speed controller.

Gas Man I don't see why that accident should make the dad limit the bikes speed. Obviously that wasn't the issue there!

Take a MSF coarse instead!!!

kinda curious why he wants to limit your speed when a drunk woman hit you while you were doing 20 MPH though... after all you weren't be reckless, and i'm assuming your bike was consider'd totaled?
Agreed. Speed had nothing to do with this accident.

I honestly don't think they exist... not many people would want to limit their speed... so not much of an after market...

he could always remove your top 4gears!
All he really needs is a throttle stop, which will, by definition, stop the throttle from going too far. Only problem with this is that it would have to limit your throttle WAY too much to keep you from going over 60MPH. You'd barely be able to twist the throttle.

How old are you?

"son i'm going to send you to the race track, because today i am going to teach you how to be a cautious rider, and to obey the speed limit. Even though a race track is designed to push you to your limits and you'll come back knowing that you can go around corners faster, shift smoother, and ride harder i'm sure although this is the second bike you've been through you'll be responsible"
unless you can see your dad saying the above quote, dont listen to ebbs.

sorry bout your luck man, but then again your dad just bought you a new bike after you totaled your old one, so Eff off... j/k

have you taken the MSF? if not that'd be a good way to show him you are responsible and riding can be safe. its only a weekend and if you already know what you're doing you'll breeze through it, and may even learn a thing or two.
