January 1, 2006 ride

I have made this a tradition for my self over the years. If its dry enough and no snow on the roads. I ride on the first day of every year no matter how cold it is. I have actually ridden in the rain and with snow falling just to keep in tradition.

It was a great day except for some salt, sand and the occasional icy patch. Low to mid 50's

Stopped for a smoke break and snapped a few shots.

Man, who's brand new R1? I still think that paint job looks like a school bus though.
That would be Dallas69's (I think that's his screen name) new R1. I don't think he has ever posted but I'm trying to draw him in cause :twfrox: .

Sweet pics and a great tradition!! Howcome you could only find one other crazy guy to go with you??
Actually, I have gotten picky about who I ride with in my old age. I hate riding with squids.
He is one of the few that I ride with on a regular basis. He love bikes as much or more than I do and he speeds safely on the streets. Pulse we are evenly matched in riding ability.

Looks like a great ride, except for ice in those shady areas. We had snow and below zero temps in the beginning of December, but the last two weeks were warm, and a record high one day. I rode up to 7,400 feet today and the roads were clear. That's the nice thing about riding by yourself. You can turn around whenever you want. With 200 inches of snow in some of the ski areas, I didn't want to come around a corner and find snow or ice.

These pics were taken about 3500 ft. or more. We slowed way down after about the 3000 ft mark. (average snow line here) I wouldn't even think of going much higher with a bike till after a serious thaw.

awesome. i started the tradition this year (being the first new years i've had a bike). i couldn't bear the thought of starting off 2006 on 4 wheels, so i rode for an hour and a half in the rain and wind. i know that doesn't sound too bad to some people, but this is Los Angeles, and people go FLIPPING INSANE when it rains.

totally worth it :dthumb:

Beautiful bikes man. Do you ride in full leathers- I can't handle the cold! I know... I'm a p###y but I'm a warm weather kinda poser. :leaving:
I almost always wear my gear. Whether its full leathers or just a sport jacket and pants. Sometimes just my jacket with street cloths. I always wear helmet, gloves and boots of some sort depending on the weather and chosen bike for the day.
BTW :welcome: to TWF:cheers:

All I have to add to that Samuria... is... Do they consider black ice???
YES!
I have been riding and found black ice as well as the white stuff like pictured above. It can get interesting at times. I don't ride long or far with those conditions.
