As I was riding today, I was on the freeway and was able to get her up to 135+MPH. As I hit this speed I started to feel a little shaking in the front. The handle bars were just a bit shakey. I want to try to max her out before the season is over so i can get a few mods done over winter and come spring see if I can top my old speed. Does this happen to anyone else as well with it shaking at high speeds. I started to feel it at 135 and it stayed the same up a few more mph. Any ideas on this guys??

Steering head bearings...How many miles do you have? Check you tires for pressure and cupping also.

Tire pressure is good. Just had it check less then a month ago. My bike has a little over 13,000 miles on it.

Could be the tire out of balance.

Would I only feel it at the speed only or all speeds??

So it may be the balance then. Or...

Ive read about others with this problem, sometimes only feeling it at lower speeds, turned out to be the bearings! just me :2cents:

Did you ever think maybe it was caused by flippin going 135 MPH on a Penn. Freeway??

I would keep it under 120 until you figure it out though.. Good luck.

First of all, I don't recommend doing those speeds on public roads, the best way to see if mods have improved power is with a dyno. That said, the first things I would check is your steering head bearings, tire pressure, wear, and balance (all already mentioned).

More than likely, it is your steering head bearings that need to be tightened. If it isn't, I would look at your steering damper (depending on the year of your bike, you should have one stock) or possibly the suspension. If the bike is unloading the front too much under acceleration it can become unstable or if you have lowered the front too much it can get twitchy.

Thanks larry for the info. I will be getting it looked at soon and see what is up with it. I will try the dyno and see if there isn't somewhere safe to take it as well to see what speed she tops out in.

I would never do anything like that without a Scotts Steering Stabalizer. They rock!

I took a buddies 954 out once and when the front end un-loaded under hard acceleration it broke loss like a mofo! Scared the Crapp rite out of me at about 130 and again at 150. I'm talkin nearly a tank slapper at those speeds. OUCH!! It sucked more because it was not my bike. The buddy had just got it and it was doing it to him a bit so I said, get off and I'll show you how to drive. So I let him drive my truck and get out in front of me then I punched the 954 by him. He was doin about 90 when I came by him at about 140 with head shake from he11. "whee, that puckered up my butthole"!!!! Found out later that on the '02 954 they used tapered roller bearings in the head that made it super loose...needless to say they went back to standard roller bearing in '03. Not really a help to the problem but a good story.. :jacked:
