Hi all :cheers:

I have two questions. i just bought my first bike on Monday. It is a red 2006 SV650s. i have not had to put gas in it yet and was wondering what is the best octane to use. the book says 87 is the minimum. is that OK to use or should i stick with 91? my other question is when i park the bike should i leave it in gear or put in neutral? thanks in advance for your help

:twfrox: :welcome: Welcome to the board. From what I have heard here.. .that is a great bike to start out on.
As far as Gas goes usually these bikes like the higher octane fuels. They tend to produce more power and burn cleaner. Generally with all high rev motors you want to use a higher octane. As far as parking goes, I always keep mine in gear,there is nothing else stoping it from rolling in case some freak thing happens

i use 91 in my SV. Anything less and performance will drop. Not to say it wont work, but you'll notice a big diffrence. As for parking, i put in neutral and lock the steering lock when im on level. Any kind of grade and i leave it in first and lock the steering.

I would stick with whatever's recommended in your manual (87 in this case). This question have been brought up many times on my local forum and our "resident mechanic" suggested sticking to whatever is suggested in the manual as higher octane may not help in most cases. I'll see if I can dig up that thread and link it here for others to read.

Well... leave it in gear when you park it!

The gas... if you want to put in mid grade fine. Using 91 would be a waste. If the bike is not timed or setup for it. You are acutally better to use the lowest octane that your bike will take without pre-ignition. I know a little about this... just check my screen name!
