i have a shoei black and gray erratix helmet, joe rocket gloves and jacket.

on the bike: two brothers carbon exhaust, vortex frame sliders, euro-undertail and the rest is basically stock.

1/ put on flame retardent suit
2/ search for "first bike"
3/ read

end result = depends entirely on the individual
some have no right being on a moped and certainly not on a sportbike
and others could get right on a 1 liter bike and have no problems at all.....
depends on the individual........................ so its for you to decide. If you cant answer the queastion for yourself then you should probably consider a moped

Like was said above... :withstupi ... :iagree: ...I don't think you have much experience with a 100HP FI bike and I would tell you to start smaller. However, I will tell you to buy what you want, because you aren't going to listen anyway, and I hope you aren't going to learn a painful and expensive lesson about sportbikes.

just respect your bike and ride within your limits and you should be alright. never stop being afraid of what the bike is capable of. that will keep you humble and keep you alive.

I KNOW THIS REAL WELL...I HAVE RACED DIRT BIKES SINCE I WAS LITTLE. THEY WILL HUMBLE YOU AS WELL! :)

O2be, I can relate cause I've had dirtbikes and know where your coming from. As soon as I make it back home I'm getting a 600. I know all the people here are thinking "squids" but as long as you don't act like an idiot, I think you'll be fine.

First, I typically don't get into the "recommended first bikes" debate as I do feel you ride whatever you want. It's your decision. I have given my two cents too friends who actually considered buying Hyabusa's.

Secondly, I started on a 600cc bike (95 ZX-6E) last year. It costs me 1800 and honestly, I didn't like any of the "beginner bikes". I am in no endorsing to do as I did. I have since moved up to an 03 7R this season and my wife rides the E. I have approximately 10K miles riding experience total between last season and this past season.

I do want to reiterate that starting out, be it whatever cc, will take more than just refraining from being an idiot (implying throttle control). I think your success to riding will come down to how you react to all the different circumstances you'll encounter. For example, the first time you hit a bump in the road and your right hand cracks the throttle more and throws you back while seated. I did it and it was very unnerving, extreme pucker factor. Furthermore, the first time you lock up the front wheel braking due to cars immediately stopping ahead of you and you not realizing it until the last minute. I did that to.

My only "getoff" (too date) was the result of an improperly executed u-turn into a curb the very first day I took the 6E out. I didn't look all the way through the turn, target fixated on the curb, did not trust the bike while not upright (vertical), and had no concept of countersteering/turning the forks simultaneously. As a newbie, these are just a few things you'll most certainly encounter in your first season of street riding. I suggest you take the MSF beginners course and take it slow. Good luck with whatever you decide to ride.

i don't think we automatically think you are a squid for buying a 600 for your first bike. if you took the time to read some 'first bike recommendation' threads you'd notice we recommend 600s alot, just certain kinds of 600s. not the latest, top of the line race replicas, but the more forgiving, rider-friendly sv650s and late 90s ZXs, CBRs etc. you are always free to ignore our advice and do as you please. best of luck to you if you do. i also rode dirt bikes while growing up, yet i started on a YSR 50 as my first street bike, then went to 2 ninja 250s before finally owning my current zx636 and i am a better rider for it. here's to making good choices and riding within your limits
