If you like Buell's, this is pretty beastly...but I guess I just dont look at them with the proper perspective..to me they scream with the power of a fred flintstone driven machine.

buells are an aquired taste really..either love em or hate em..
I've got one.. and I love it. It's a great bike so far, I've had it since September. The only things I would want to change are the 3.5 gallon gas tank (which is not possible to change), and the handlebar setup (which I am working on). And possibly change out the clear air box cover (fake tank).. but that really isn't so bad.
Other than that, it is a blast to ride. Gobs of low end torque, with the penalty of not so hot top end. But that's ok for me.. I would rather have the low end grunt.

Welcome to the forum, RAT. My brother has an XB12R and he just traded up from the XB9S. He was thinking of turning his 9S into a 9R, but then realized he could just buy a new 12R and have the same amount of money into a bike. I agree with you on changing out the handlebars if you're planning on carving some corners. It would definitely help with handling, but it would also change your seating position on the bike a little. Go with what works best for the type of riding you'll be doing most.

I think if I had it to do all over again, I probably would have opted for the XB12r. But I am happy with the 9.
I haven't riden a 12, but I hear that there is a LOT more torque. What is strange to me is that the 9 has a higher top end.
Maybe one day I will send my muffler off to Drummer and get it re-worked. I have heard a lot of good things about what Drummer does to the buell muffler. And it isn't too bad being priced around $350.

ive seen the more close up pics of the tank.. i like the clear tank plastic.....
But to justify a 900CC bike at least give it the power of a 900CC Twin from the big four...the SV1000 seems like a MUCH better big twin, even over the 1200 buell...But i actually am growing fond of the Buells looks... and its a good reason to not take a passenger as you cant really do it safely on the CityX

Yeah, the buell definately does not get the advantage of higher rpms like the SV's do. I believe they have a lot longer stroke in the buell engine.ScottSellersUNR said:
The looks are what really got me on the Buell, and the short wheelbase. IIRC it's only 51 inches. Nice for the tight twisties.
Welcome Rat, I am the capt. brother. I had a 9S for about 9 months and traded it in on the 12R. The 9 has a higher rev limiter because of being a smaller engine. The 984 cc engine can go higher in the rev range because of piston speed is not as high and it will live. Now with the 1203 cc engine in the XB12's the are limited in the rev range because of the piston speed being to high above 6800 rpm. That is the factory's thinking from what I understand. I have talked to my dealers race mechanic and they have a 1340 cc race engine that is reving to 7500 rpm. It lasted all season last year with out any failure. He told me if it is built right it will live. He also said they had about 5000 race miles on that engine. As for me I am hooked on the Buells. I like any kind of sportbike. But I like the nice broad torque curve on a Buell. There are no suprises in mid corner because the torque curve is smooth throughout the rev range. Have you tried to find any user groups on yahoo? belong to one for XB owners in yahoo.
