I'm 5'7" and i've set the rear suspension at the lowest setting but i still kick the seat every now and then... the bike has 3.1k miles on it now and i was waiting for it to be "broken in" before i made a decision about the rear suspension...

i need to lower it about an inch or an inch and a half. Any suggestions? It's just too damn high, lol.

How did you "lower" the suspension?
when I bought the fox racing shock for the SV...it had a coil over on it. I just turned the spring compressor and lower she went. Some bikes come with this feature.

That’s the preload adjuster. It is not a good Idea to bottom it out like that. I would rather kick the seat then put the whole bike @ risk by compromising the suspension like that.
:iagree: that will also be a rough ride with it maxed out.

That's what I was getting at... as Twisty says... NOT A GOOD IDEA! You aren't really "lowering" the bike as much as JACKING the suspension all up!

Buy some lowering links and set that back up right.

awesome, thanks for the tip. my butt and my kidneys thank you all in advance. I will set the preload to position 4 or 5

i was basing most of my suspension settings off http://600rr.us/suspension.html.

Didn't know it was that bad of a deal (since it was all stock mods). so a big :dthumb: for the advice.

As for the lowering links, any suggestions where i can go to check them out? My friend bought a used '04 f4i and it was lowered (the owner was 5'3"). I just want to be able to put both feet on the ground and not tippy-toe. right now i can half-foot both feet.

Be very careful with this. Only lower what you have to.
Just remember that lowering a bike effects the way it handles. Front and rear need to be lowered equally. Every little bit you lower it, you lose ground clearance.
You can drag rolling over small curbs and or drag the exhaust and pegs in a turn.
Hard parts hitting while ridding can easily cause you to hit the ground.

This has been discussed many time here on TWF. Do a search from the main forums page with key words Lowering, Lowered bike.

I'm 5'8 and I can put both my feet flat on ground with a stock 03 600RR even wearing sneakers. Just be glad that you don't own a kawasaki 636 which has a considerably higher seat even with the same claimed seat height. Don't substitute suspension setting as a way to lower your bike. I think the best thing you can do is go to a shop or ask someone with knowledge in suspension to set up the bike according to your own weight (not height) and get use to stopping with one foot.
