So I pick up my bike on Wednesday next week... and I checked into it... and it's got 616miles and there is no record of the maintance being done yet... so I'm going to have it done before I pick it up...

my question is this... what should I be expecting to have done? they quoted me $135+ oil and filter... is this too early to switch to synthetic? if so when should the switch be done?

also the bike has been sitting for a while... (it's an 05 and I'm not sure when it was traded in) is there anything I need to check? it's been sitting in a non heated tent... for at least the last 4 months... or will that all be taken care of in the 600 mile checkup?

sorry if these questions seem simple... I just want to get everything sorted out before I leave for the desert so when I get back I can spend the little time I'll have left of dry weather RIDING... and not waiting for my bike to be fixed...

They change oil/filter and do a once over of the bike to make sure nothing loosened up and what not. You're proly gonna get mixed answers as far as the synthetic goes. I put it in at my 600 mile point and haven't had any problems. They say you're supposed to gradually work your way to synthetic, like switching to a semi then to a full so your rings can wear in right.

If you haven't started it in a while you might want to. keep the battery charged and use some gas stabilzer in the tank so the gas doesn't go bad

well I told them I wanted the gas (if there was any in it...) to be drained and new gas put in... but yeah I don't know if they left the battery on the bike or not... but whats crazy is I went out and sat on it... and the keys were IN IT... lol... no chains... it's in a tent so not hard to get to... a dark area at night... :scratch:

I'm not worried about it as I'll be picking it up next week... after that it'll be in my spair room...

just thought it was funny that they'd let me go sit on it... knowing the keys were in it... with no supervision... even in Oregon they wouldn't do that... though I guess... there is 12" of snow on the ground so not like I'd be going very far very fast :lol:

I have had that happen but only with a local dealership that i regulary deal with. anyway i bet there are alot of low mile bikes up there.

yeah probably... but there are few for sale... I seriously think there are probably 200-250 riders in the Anchorage area... not just sportbikes though... and it seems like they either just run'm tell they die... or sell them to friends... the Honda dealership in Anchorage told me they had a total of 25 bikes traded in last year in there two stores... 3 were sportbikes... :nonod:

I wouldn't switch till at least 3k-5k miles...

I went in last night to put in my order for my helmet... and noticed the rear tire was flat... (something I either over looked before or just happened) but it looks like I may have over looked it as it looks like it's been that way for a while... my question is this... does that harm the tire in any way? should I get new tires? or get the old ones plugged? I'm leaning tward having them put new ones on... but these only have 616 on them... though they did tell me that they repaired a flat rear tire (same one that's flat now) a month or so after they got the bike...:scratch:

I would try to get them to replace the tire, i mean it do go flat before you picked it up. I don't know about plugging the tire, I think it would give me an uneasy feeling at about 100 mph. Idealy replace the tire:2cents:

Definately replace the rear tire. Really not alot of cash even if you have to pay for it. Also check the front as well and make sure its not cupped as it will vibrate and handle funny. Also, check with some other ZZR guys to see what they think of the OEM tires. Most of the time the OEM tires aren't the greatest and many swap them out right away anyway. Maybe the dealer will give you the rear if you buy a front as well. Tires are like oil, everyone has their opinion but there is usually a consensus on what works best for any given machine. Hopefully they put stabil in the gas and your carbs aren't gummed up. Some fuel line cleaner probably wouldn't be a bad idea but then again thats just:2cents:

Ebbs...this has been discussed many times here on TWF. The general concensus is that in the rear... a plug is ok but not recommended. In the front FORGET ABOUT IT! But in the end, most suggest a replacement.

Plug that tyre...

First, figure out where the leakage is. Could be a faulty/broken valve. Use soapy water to find it.

But listen to me! I'm the tyre pro here. Plug it with the gooey stuff. If it fails, I'll buy you a new tyre. And no, you will not crash from a slow leakage. You will notice the poor handling once you start losing some air.

Don't listen to the others that fear the plugged tyre. I've been a tyre tech with race creds and a michelin cert. If you dropped your $500 helmet, would you buy a new one or put some touch up paint?

ok... but my question was more about the damage (if any) from sitting on a flat tire... I know for cars if it sits for a while it'll distroy the sidewall... I just don't want to have a flat spot where the tire has been broken down from sitting on that one spot flat for a while... :scratch:

BM...its all personal preference... in the rear I may allow MYSELF to plug it. In the front NO WAY! And I never said a slow leak would be un safe...
