I installed 35 12" square pavers for a mini-patio, yesterday. We have this bistro set and it needed a place to go.

Where I live, in Northern Alabama, the soil is rock-hard red clay. I had to dig down several inches so the pavers would be level with the ground and slope away from the house. I also had to accommodate for the sand the stones lay on so they're level. Talk about back-breaking work; particularly with the sun beating on you.

I got them all installed and they look great. I've never laid these down before, and I'm convinces it's all in preparation. Laying the pavers down went quickly, it was the 90 minutes of excavation and preparation that made it worth it.

Oh yeah, but I enjoy most home improvement projects. My biggest issue is finding the time to do them.

There is a certain satisfaction with completing a job like that and standing back to admire your work.

it was 112 here yesterday. I spent the afternoon on the couch watching AMA, MotoGP and WRC races. My thumb is tuckered out from the remote control. :dthumb:
I sure hope the coming Katrina rains don't ruin your project.
:iagree: did the same thing. Too damn hot to even work on the bike yesterday. Except in my case, watching TV got so intense, that I fell asleep halfway through the Moto GP race. I ALWAYS freaking do that! I need to be a bit more active while watching TV on Sundays or I just fall asleep on the couch. Now I must go check motograndprix.com for the results... :leaving:

Did you use a tiller to soften the ground before digging? I agree w/you on the do it yourself attitude. No greater reward. Gas is right, we need pics.
