Yes I know I know, I had another problem obtaining a petcock in another thread, my best friend got it to work. YAY! It just needed to be REALLY cleaned out. ok, this is the deal. I can't get the bike started. I think it's the fact that there was old gas in this 1992 F1 for so long, it jelled up the jets. Now I have extra jets and am going to go out in the garage in about 30 Min's and start replacing them. I'm hoping and praying that they aren't the main jets, I don't want to screw with those... I've put new gas in the tank and it's has gone into the carbs, so I was hoping that might clean them out a little... maybe. Also, I bought a new battery for this bike and it died and is now on a trickle. I didn't leave the key turned on, so I'm trying to figure out as to why the battery would of died? Any suggestions? Something is draining it with out it being turned over?!?!

Please please please, help!

Old gas is your enemy, particularly if if was never "Sta-bil"ized. Good luck with your carbs.

As far as why your battery new is draining... did you have a problem with the last battery draining or do oyu even know because it was old?

Jappy...did you just keep cranking on the starter? That may have drained it.

When I got the bike, the battery was already dead, so this is a new replacement. As for cranking it over again and again, yes I admit, I did do it, but not to where the battery started to die. I left the bike alone for about a good week with out touching it and when I came back to work on her, she was dead.

I can guarantee that there was never any stable-lizer in the tank. I know what old gas can do. **grumble** oh well, off to remove everything I can and clean it up..

Did you ever put the good charge on the new battery before tryig to use it?

I think they call for like a 2amp charge for 12 hours or somin...

Actually, I didn't. I'm so used to just letting it sit for about an hour after you dump the junk in and throwing it in the bike and starting it up. So you're prolly correct about that. But it's been sitting on a trickle now for 24 hrs. I'll see if that helps. I really think that I might just have to take the whole thing apart and clean her all out. Gaskets and all. I had to get some sleep before tackling this project. **grumbling... dang 12 hr night shift** ha ha!

to see if there is some type of parasitic draw on your battery,take the neg. side off and hook up a test light in series(from the cable to the post).It should not light,with the ign. off! If it does light then go to the fuse box and pull fuses until you get the light to go out,that'll be the CIRCUIT that the fault is in,then you got to go and find the actual prob. but at least you'll have a better idea!

My CBR has almost 50K on it, and as a reward I am going to replace the float needle and seat on each carb. When I clean my carbs, I always check each float needle for wear, but I never unscrew the float seat.

When I bought new needle and seats, I was surprised to see that above each float seat is a small, fine-screen filter. My CBR never came with a fuel filter, and neither the owner's manual, nor the shop manual ever mentioned this screen. If a bike was to sit for a while, this fine screen could easily varnish up and clog.

Here's a picture of the mesh screen, float seat, and float needle, left to right. The screen can just be pulled off and an inline-filter can be installed in the fuel line. When I replace the float needles, I will post a picture of how clean my 16-year-old screens look like.
