Road surface FL

I just rode my bike to Tampa last summer, my brother lives there.
I'm planning to move to the Miami area soon, my question is this-

In the Clearwater area they use sea shells for the road instead of gravel like here in Colorado, I had no problems the week I was in Tampa. I was wondering if all through Florida they use sea shells? My brother says it get slippery when wet. How bad is it?

I'm in Tampa... some roads here are shells, most aren't.
I'm new to riding but would like to get to know people who ride in the area!
