Ive been looking for a fairly cheap bike and i came across an f3 on cycletrader. Its a 98 red and black with 4500 miles. Its fs for 4 grand. I just was wonderin from any f3 owners what they thought about them. What are the goods and bads about the bike. The only thing i dont like is the front end. Its old school lookin but i dont want to spend much. What are your opinions.

For a cheaper bike, you should be looking for an early 90's bike. That 98 is priced high. Check out www.nadaguides.com. For all-around bike-Honda VFR750; sport bike-Kawasaki ZX-6R or Yamaha YZF750R.

I love my F3. The good and bad:

Good: Honda reliability. Can't kill these things! Cheap to run / maintain / etc. Parts and aftermarket things are fairly easy to come by. Comfortable bike around town compared to other sport bikes. Handles great and you can get some power out of it if you ring it's neck.

Bad: You will want rear-sets if you are a track junky, the pegs are a little low. Power is going to be down on the newer bikes, but hey you are talking 7 year old technology vs. the cutting edge.

The '98 is going to be the newer tail section. Sounds like you are interested in the looks, so a 97 or 98 is probably what you want. However, for probably $1-2K less (depending on condition / mileage / etc) you can get a 95 or 96. Just something to consider if you are counting $$ like the rest of us.

$4500 sounds a little high, but maybe you can negotiate. Don't use Ebay to get prices, they seem to be high compared to Cycle Trader, your local paper, etc.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with!!
