Oh man !! :willy: :willy:   What a ride !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had an absolute blast the entire week. Did the dragon 3 times up and back ! The first time I was alittle shaky of course since I had never seen the road except in vids and when driving the truck thru it on the way to the resort when we got there.

The 2nd time was alittle better but my lines were still off on many of the turns, and by the last time, I was clicking thru and my lines in and out of the turns were nearly perfect. I would have liked to ride it a few more times but we did alot of other rides up the cherhahola skyway, blue ridge parkway, clingmans dome, and we road up and down rt 28 into robbinsville alot.

The hotel was decent, but the beds were average at best, so I didnt sleep much..but I guess thats what happens when you ride all day, then come back and hang out all night talking :dthumb:

I wouldnt have traded this week for the world, the experience I got from other riders who were down w/ us, riding the dragon, and I even learned a thing or 2 in the mechanical field as well since a few riders had some problems with their carbs, so I pay'd attention as they did bike surgery inbetween rides.

Also met killboy, who is one of the main reasons if not the main reason the dragon is so popular and the roads are in such good condition thru most of it. He did a photoshoot for us, and Ive seen the pics, he took about 700+ pics of myself and the other riders we were there with as we road around the turn we like to call the play ground  The pics have been burned to a cd/dvd and I should have it w/ in a week so once I do I'll load them up.

Charliemav and I took alot of pics that we'll load up in the coming days, but right now Im just too tired from driving 14 hours home

The dragon and the surrounding roads are something every rider should experience. The scenery is second to none, and roads were outstanding.

I definatley wore out my rear tire by the end of the week :willy: , which you'll see in the pics after they are loaded up. And I got rid of my chicken strips too !!!

The dragon is everything is cracked up to be and something I will never forget. I cant wait to go back next year.

glad you had a good time N4S! I'm out cleaning and polishing the bike for carlisle this weekend, so I will edit my post and comment later. I just came in for a beer refresh.

edit>> ok I'm back the gap and the entire area is awesome and gets :dthumb: lucky jeeps84 since he is a local!

You gotta get down there more than once a year N4S!! I've been 3 times so far this year, and I am still in the process of planning my last trip of the year either at the end of august of early to mid september.

I'm glad you had a good time tho...get ready for Carlisle this weekend, and hopefully us locals take a short ride somewhere.

Need4Speed ,

That is awesome. Glad you had a great time. I would love to venture into somthing like that one day. I may seek out a country road around here and spend an afternoon getting lost in Jersey. It may not sound like a thrill compaired to the gap but we have some nice country side with plenty of uphill turns and downhill swoops that could make for some Get away riding.. It is about the freedom for me. I love to get lost in my rides. Even if I;'m only 5 miles out of town.
Anyhow Glad your safe and posting about your trip. It keeps some of us older mairried ones dreamin. :dthumb:
Thanks for the thoughts.

Some 2005 deals gap pics

Here's some pics that Charliemav and I took down there...there is still more to come but here's what we have so far.

And yeah, most of the roads were in pristine condition considering the amount of traffic they get...damn PA roads suck!!! :bonk:

Yeah the rain sucks..it seems to rain down there almost every day around mid afternoon so that gives u a good couple hours till the roads dry up again..just long enough for a rest and then back out riding till it gets dark.

Not sure of the exact location but I'll fill ya in once I know.

It kicks a$$ doesn't it N4S??? The second time you go gets even better because oyur more comfortable on the tight switch backs and stuff. Personally I think some of the best riding is on the Cherahola with the huge sweepers, little to no traffic for miles, and awsome views.
Damn I already wanna go back to the Gap!

Sounds like lots of fun. Pics look good. How did CharlieMav do down there riding?
I'll answer this one for you DJ

I did AWSOME for someone who didn't have a lot of riding experience. Don't believe me...Check out Katriders.com and read what the others had to say. Let me just say, I had a BLAST down at the Gap. Just meeting up and putting names with faces was such a thrill. Everyone was just so awsome.

It was such an experience to see the beauty and the dangers of the Gap and surrounding areas. But what really took me aback was was the amount of knowledge and helpful hints to become a better rider.

BUT... I laid my bike down for the first time coming back from Cherohala Skyway. I got over confident, went into a turn too hot, didn't lean into my turn, panicked as I crossed the double yellow line, my eyes went down, and grabbed my front brake. Sending my bike and I crashing to the road. Thank GOD for GEAR!!! Saved my arse. I biotched up my knee, got some road rash, and have some HUGE bruises on the back of my other leg. :bash: I know what I did wrong and I'm NOT going to do that ever again.

Scared the crap out of me. :willy: All that was done to the bike was cosmetic. Nothing broken or leaking. Just some big ole scratches and scrapes.
I got back on the bike and rode it home. I was a little nervous, but I needed to do it. I HAD to do it. And I plan on getting back on it once the swelling on my knee goes down. I had a great time watching, listening and learning. I'm definitely going back down next year. And hopefully by that time I won't be so slow.

And the people I hung out with were the coolest! So yes...I am now a Gapper!! WOOHOO!

Yeah that is very common for newbies. I give you credit Char...the GAP and surrounding roads is a bit much for a newbie rider. Glad to hear all is ok... and you're right...if it wasn't for your gear you would have been much worse off... is there pics of this stuff?

Also, N4S...finally got a chance to check out the pics...where are you? :D

Yeah believe it or not, there's mountains and trees and waterfalls and creeks and dams and everything..whoda thunk it?

I still have 2 camera's worth of pics to go up and I have some pics coming to me on a CD that show me riding on rt 28 on some nice twisties. The kat did flawless, no problems whatsoever and I had an absolute blast. Who says Kats cant rail!!!!

No doubt Ace..it was the ride of a lifetime. The more I rode the dragon, the more comfortable I got..I cant wait to go back..damn living so far away from it just blows azz!!! There's some video of me riding the dragon but it hasnt been posted up yet, its coming to me on the CD w/ the other pics, when it gets here I'll post it up.
