Sounds like another thread... so split!!

But that is  and I'm not sure whether or not the school has any legal right to suspend the kid over something like that. If that was my kid I would sue the pants off the school!! However, I could see legal problems with the kid and the parents due to it...

if that website is accessible from the school's computers, then the school is within jurisdiction. It's the same as finding a death threat note in an unsecured locker at school.

death threats are not fun and games anymore.
but i'm not sure why students who viewed the site are also suspended.

The way I read it. :readng:
The students joined the sight as friends. That's why the are in trouble. For knowingly and willingly joining a hate group.

As for the school being some what responsible. It will just lead to more censorship of freedoms for the students. A few can abuse a freedom and ruin it for the rest.

I can understand suspending the kid who posted it, but suspending the kids who viewed it is completely absurd. Now, if those kids made comments in MySpace about also hating the girl, etc., etc., then I can understand them being suspended. But they certainly should not be suspended for simply viewing the information from their home computers. Is the school going to start suspending kids for viewing porn from their home computers now?

I'm not REAL familiar with MySpace, but I'm somewhat familiar and the original poster can change the site at any time. Hell, those students could have just been friends of the person and on his/her friend list, then that person goes in and changes the site to the hate site. On another note, lets assume the person DID send requests for people to view the hate site. Have you ever had a friend send you some crap through e-mail that you know you really don't want to see, but you view it anyway just out of curiosity? Those kids probably just thought it was a joke and they looked at it. They still should not be suspended.

IDK the whole story and agree the kids may not be responsible. We will just have to wait till the rest of the story come out. Till then, the school is going to make an example out of these kids.

hmmm, thats really insane  but it does make me wonder about where the line is drawn...i may be totally off base here but in today's day and age, how is posting something on the web any different than pre-web posting things on the bathroom walls and stuff?? To clarify, i dont agree with what he did or any kind of racism, discrimination, etc...just curious...
