Scorpion EXO 400 ($140-50) or Scorpion EXO 700 ($200). I've heard the 400 actually tested better than the 700. But these helmets are great. I got the 400 now and it's awesome. I can actually feel the air from the vents from time to time. If you can try one on first.

:iagree: I don't have one myself..yet...but there has been a lot of good talk about the Scorpion helments here in the past few months, and great reviews may I add.

You should try a Shoei helmet as well. If you shop around you can usually find a solid color Shoei for around 250. The Shoei's are well worth it. You get what you pay for, the quality and fit and finish are great. Plus you'll have a helmet that will be comfortable and a pleasure to wear long after the other brands. I have a new top of the line HJC that sits in the closet while I continue to wear my old school Shoei b/c its so much nicer to wear. :2cents:

Hjc's Are Heavy And Noisy. AND THE VENTS SUCK. :2cents:

I just got a KBC and they are noisy. However, other than that I do like it. 170 bucks at the stealer for the Force RR Blade. Vents really well and I have yet to have the shield fog up in the rain or morning fog. Much better than my HJC AC10. I wanted to try the Scorpion but couldn't find a dealer nearby to try one and fit is real imortant. I would go with KBC over HJC if those become your choices.

Icon?

This is the first I've heard of the Scorpion helmets. Definately something I'll look into.

Any opinions on the Icon Mainframe Halo? Just a hair more than $200 from Kneedraggers, and looks like a decent lid. In the market for my first helmet, and I ruled out HJC long ago.

Thanks - Matt

I have found HJC's to last about a year or 12,000 miles...I bought the one I am wearing now in June '04 when I bought the bee, and it is really getting rough

If it fits you right and is at least DOT approved and has the color scheme that suits your image then it really dont matter how much it is even if it's $79.99. Statisticly most people that die in motorcycle recks that were wearing a helmet did not die of head injury nomatter what brand of helmet or level of tested quality. But most accidents with fatalities that had no helmets on at all were hear injuries. Even some with no other marks on the body at all.
My point isnt to get you to go cheap, But a safty approved and great fit will go farther than price alone. I have had them all from Shoei to Nolan and any in between. Right now in my posession I have (1) HJC and (2) KBC all are awesome helmets. And none were over $140.00 alone. All came SNELL/DOD app. With logoed helmet bags. :dthumb:

Just go to the dealer/s and try on different brands and styles to find what fits right and comfortable. What works for me may not work for you. :2cents:

:2cents: I've got the KBC Freeze (about $260) and as mentioned on other responses to this thread... this one is heavy as well but bearable and is noisy; the padding is weak and the bottom back padding keeps poping off too easily. im Currently looking for new helmet myself... :2cents:

+1 to the Scorpion EXO - 400. Got the Red Octane model and love it, may get another for the passenger.

If you find the helmet gets too windy for ya, they make a aero - skirt you can clip on the bottom and shunt most of it.

Good stuff! :dthumb:
