Ok so i don't know a whole lot bout bikes, but i just bought 99 GSXR 750 great bike so far, but when i stop at a light or just sitting in the drive way at home after a ride it starts to idle funny like it idles at 1K RPM and then it starts to bounce below and back up until finally it shuts off. Then it takes a min to crank back up. And this is always after riding for a while. The temp reads sitting still on hot day 215 to 220 F . Should i adjust the idle,(if so where is the adjustment). There was a new alternator put in it( i know it's called something else for motorcycles) I just need suggestions cause i don't want to take it to bike shop cause they'll rape me for all my money.

One more thing i have been running 93 octane in it, should i use lower grade?

So it doesn't hesitate when you're riding it? Just when you're stopped? Is it hard to take of from a stop? 93 octane is good for that bike. You could go 91, but NO LOWER. How many miles are on it? You may need a tune up and idle adjustment. Your "altenator" is called a stator. You could have your charging system checked. May need a battery.

Charging systems on bikes are suposse to be between 13.8-14.2 volts, just like cages right?

No it's not hard to take off from stop. It really doesn't hesitate either. Mileage on it is 15,312. Lets see when i bought the bike supposedly there was a new stator put in it. But u never really know. I will check the voltage on the battery and try adjusting the idle to see if that helps. From what i heard the bike temp setting still after riding should be round 215 F. Plus it was like 85 here yesterday.
And the bike is fuel injected so i guess i will go home and try to adjust the idle. Thnaks open to any more suggestions

There should be a sticker...maybe under the seat near the batter, fuse box, etc...that tells you what RPM the bike should idle. The adjuster is probly on down near your left leg somewhere.

Also, yank the plugs and check them out. As was said earlier...a solid tuneup maybe in order.

I would say new plugs, wires, clean carbs (not sure about this w/ F.I.)

Oh and make sure your air filter is clean too.

Plugs...good NGK ones will cost you from $5 - $10 each! Plus a new fuel filter.... the wires are probably fine.

The fuel injectors for each cylinder have to be synced just like carbs. You need a carb stick with the mercury-filled tubes or whatever safer thing they use nowadays.

Well the good news is i think i found the problem. The battery isn't getting charged and when the temp goes up on the bike and the fan kicks on the bike shuts off i think b.c the battery is getting weaker. Today when i got home the battery was dead almost it would barely turn over. So i jumped it wirh my car and it cranked right up. So in the long run do you guys think i need a new stator b/c the battery is new?

I would just get the battery installed and then test the voltage with the bike at a higher RPM.

Damn right it is. Zook went to FI on the 750's in 98. 2001 for the 600's.

prolly not the stator but the regulator rectifier. I just suggested that in another thread. The stator wont drain the life out of your battery per sa, the only thing the stator does is kick the bike over, it shouldn't run OFF the stator, if it does, it'll suck the life out of your battery rather quickly. One thing you could do is this, un-plug (or disconnect) your head light. If the bike runs well with out it, then its more then likely the rectifier and not the stator or the battery. If the 99 is FI, then it wont have carbs. :scratch: so that's a no go there. As for the temp at idle, most bikes will run hot sitting still on a hot day. If the fan is kicking on, then the battery is working just fine. You may check your fluids. People tend to forget about something as simple as Anti-freeze. If you're low, the bike will run hot or over heat. Look to see if your radiator is clean and free of bugs and the ikk they pick up, then open the cap (after the bike has had time to cool off) and check to see if you're running low or if there is any color (green) to it.

It could be a bad wire or rectifier/regulator.
