Ok i'll chime in here now.
I'm a ball player, and have been my whole life. It's something that just gets in your blood.
Hitting a baseball at that level, is 90% mental, 9%timing, and the rest a combination of skill, strength, bat speed, lunar activities, etc......
I think he did take steroids, and i think he took them knowing full well what he was doing. Did they help him? YES. and heres why.
Hitting a long ball off a pitch thats right down the middle is all about bat speed, and timing. swing fast and through, while making good contact, and the ball is going, going, gone. it has nothing to do with brute force, and more to do with a nice fluid motion. Heres the catch. Hitting a ball thats out of your "wheel house", throws off your nice fluid swing and changes your whole geometry. Now, because you "upset" geometry, and have to chase a ball thats, say, low and away, it now requiers more force to transfer the same amount of energy into the ball and it did whith a nice fluid swing and a ball in the zone. Thats where bonds extra strength came into play. He wasn't getting "pitched to". Every pitcher in the leauge was pitching around him, and not giving him any good pitches to hit. The extra strength he had allowed him to chase balls low and away, and still drive them out of the park. If you were to go back and look at 90% of the dingers he hit, they were all out of the zone, and he had to muscle them out of the park.
Thats the end of my rant. Oh and to answer the poll question, i'd say both!! I think he's a liar and a moron. I never liked him, even before this whole debacle
