Well a few of us from WOS went to this... here's what I found!

Well we went to the Buell Demo days... and I must tell ya...they got it going on! Talk about way more organazation than BMW. Buell brings a trailer from Coperate with about 15 bikes in it! It's awesome! And I got a free bag from the deal. Not too bad...

Plus the dealer had free dyno runs.... That was interesting, but to stay on topic I'll talk about that in another thread.

The Buells were interesting and alot of fun to ride. They weren't a power or speed bike but a fun bike. I wouldn't mind having one for the wife. That way I could ride it every now and then!

They had the 2 basic bikes I wanted to see, both the XB12R's... the Lightening and the Firebolt.

The lightening is a slightly smaller feel and more street fighter...where as the Firebolt was more sportbike ish with alot more street fighting style.

The Lightening had handlebars and the Firebolt has the clip ons.

I took out a Firebolt...more my style...

The bikes were lacking some serious power. Just about when you would get some good power from it it was getting real close to the redline. The good power was from 4K up. But it starts to redline at 6.5K Cale (who rides a TL1000R)said it well... if it just had another 1K of usable power above that 6.5K it would rock!

While it does have some nice low end grunt it just isn't enough to really get the excitement. The bike would get real boring after a while... don't get me wrong I loved riding it today and would have loved to get it into some more twisties but it was just lacking more power.

But for a HD bike..they were nice. I would consider one for the wife but for me I would just get too bored with it!

WOS and some newbies then hit some twisties to complete a great day in some 70 degree Michigan weather!

All in all a good day! And GREAT weather!

Posted up some pics in the "All Others" photo gallery... but asked mods why we don't have a Buell photo folder... so DJ may be moving those pics...

After the last few years of looking at the Buells they can start to grow on ya a bit.

I couldn't imagine you thinking the Buell would be up to par on the power.
You do ride a 9.
I think the Buell would be as hard to beat on the tight twisty stuff as any other 600, with the right rider. :2cents:

Hey Gas, did they have the CityX out there? Did any of you get to check that out?
Not that I noticed...

But as much as the HD salesmen told me that the Buells would own any other bike on the streets in the twisties... I don't believe them. I mean I know that the bike would really shine in the twisties but own all the Jap bikes.... :skep:

The XB chassis numbers are actually really good. Very close to an 03-04 R6 in geometry, with a low ceneter of gravity. They actually handle very well. As with most things on the street, a good rider would have no problems keeping up with (or leading) someone on a Japanese bike. Except in a straight line.

The motor is the weak point - you're still looking at what is basically a hopped-up Sportster motor. They can be made to go very fast though, as there are tons of aftermarket go-fast parts available, it's just not cheap.

As you can see from this thread I did this last year and got my bag.

They are doing it again this year and giving away the bag again. Its a great bag and all you have to do is take a Buell out for a test ride at a participating dealer.
