I saw that Captain Morgan had a bad experience selling a bike on ebay. Has anyone had a good experience buying a bike on ebay or other on-line store? I've bought some used parts and was happy with the deal, but I'm leary of buying an old bike on line.

buying parts is one thing, you're usually pretty safe there. ebay has a alot of great honest people to deal with..

but as far as buying a bike on there..no way, not me!! not unless I can drive there and actually see it for myself..

just me :2cents:

I have bought a bike on ebay. The bike I am riding now I got there. I did my homework first. I talked to him about it for almost an hour the first time calling and got a lot of info about him as well. I also wanted to make sure he didn't have a unlisted number so I could use google to look up his number and it will give me his name and address and everything else I wanted to know. You really need to be careful on it cause you could get burnt and then again if your smart about it you will be ok. What kind of bike are you looking for and what price range??

I was looking at some exotic bikes, the Suzuki RG 500 Gamma and Yamaha RZ 500. Both are two strokes, modeled after the Grand Prix racers from the 1980's. They couldn't meet emissions here and were sold in Canada and Europe. I know that current 600's are faster, but that's not the point.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I lusted after these bikes. Plus, I have Castrol two-stroke oil in my blood, and probably some still in my lungs. The problem would be importing from Canada, customs, shipping, taxes and title, and of course avoiding a scam.

Well, as N4S said, one of the best things you can do is find a bike somewhat close to you and go inspect it first. Ebay does give you some protection from scams, but not as much as really needed.

On a different note, I was coming in to post an update to my thread about the non-payer. I called him again on Friday and told him that I would sue for contract fulfillment, which he could do in one of two ways. One, he could fulfill his part by buying the bike, or two, he could pay the difference between his bid price and whatever I get for the bike. He said he'll buy the bike and will have the money on the 18th. I'll believe it when I see it, but it's more progress than I'd made so far.

Shan has some insight on getting a bike into a the US like your considering doing...I believe he got his SV from canada, if im not mistaken..

Captain..I definately wouldnt count on that cash, especially if you offered for him to just pay the difference and now all of the sudden he wants to buy the bike.

would you still make out in the deal if u sued him?

I had a buddy in Miami try to buy a bike on E-bay...Like a fool he didn't want to pay the premium for Paypal...now he has no wheels and is lighter $3000. from his wallet!!! Just a warning...Don't buy anything you can't eat unless you lay hands on it first!!

Well, all of the other bidders (for the price I'd be willing to sell for) are no longer interested for one reason or another, so the bike will just sit and wait anyway. But to be honest, I wasn't ACTUALLY going to sue him, just wanted to see if I could scare him into paying. ;)

I guess you could say I bought my bike off of Ebay. I found the bike I wanted, that was rather close to where I live. The auction had a reserve that had not been met yet. The guy had placed his number in the listing so I called him up and told him if his bike didn't sell I would call him back, well 3 days later I called him up and made him a offer, that included delivery to my drive way (so I could inspect the bike and the Title), he accepted, 3 days later I had a bike and he had cold hard cash.

Oh yea the bike was mint A 2002 CBR F4I not a scratch on it and only 4200 miles. :D . It kinda looks like this one :redmc: :D

All I can still say is do your homework first before buying off of ebay or selling to be sure your not going to get burnt and the other person is for real buying. :)
