So now I am an expert on chain replacement. Well, at least I have the right tool. CBR's are renown for having trouble with the cam chain tensioner (CCT) and mine rattles at idle. When I change mine, I will also redo the cam chain.

Is cam chain similar to drive chain? Can I use my chain breaker to undo the stock cam chain, latch on a new chain, string it through the engine and press on a new side plate? Or is cam chain sold as a solid one-piece chain? If it is can it be carefully broken? Are slotted cam sprockets worth it for a street bike? Has anyone done this?

Cam chains do not have a master link. Your cam chain is on one end of the motor (not the middle) so it is not too bad to replace...as long as you understand how to time the cams in relation to the crank properly. However, if you are going through the trouble to replace the chain (not sure why) you may want to look into replacing the guides as well.

IMHO, slotted cam sprockets are not really worth it for the street. They are good for moving the powerband around a little but they usually do not make a huge difference for the butt-dyno. Not to mention, they can be a real PITA to time properly with the motor in the frame.
