Thinking about buying this used blue micron slip on on ebay. My bike is yellow and black so it doesnt match. However, I think some high temp black paint can do the job. Even just polishing the damn thing will do. I think its a steal at BIN for $99 Think its Worth the trouble? I am probably going to a salvage yard tomorrow before I consider purchasing it to see what they got. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't... just keep looking and get one that would more properly match your bike... You can used cans for cheap... don't settle on something like that... :nonod:

psysically the can came off an 01 ZX6r like mine. Its just not the right color. I am probably off to the salvage yard tomorrow to see whats up the weird thing is, did they even make a blue 01 zx6r OEM? Nevermind I guess they do.

i wouldn't paint it....even if you used hi temp paint it wouldn't hold up too well.

The hard part about painting it would be making it look good. Polishing would be allot of extra work also.

I guess I will just have to wait and see. I let temptation get to me and ended up winning the auction. My friends are giong to help me paint the can if I choose to. I was planning on repainting the whole bike blue or black, so I could go that route as well. Or I can sell it for $100 and make my money back Besides, who wouldnt want a ghetto custom matte black Micron can on their bike? :lol: :leaving:

There is a spray paint by VHT (very high temperature) that is supposed to be good to 1,500 degrees. Should come in yellow. Or you could wrap it in that special heat-proof exhaust wrap that comes in black. Try http://www.summitracing.com/.

You could repaint it, but I don't think it look very good. And, you'd have to use the high-temp paint.

Paint wouldn't do it any justice really, it's anodized, so the only thing is that evey chip inthe paint is going to show up blue rather than siver and look horrid! I wouldn't but it's ultimately up to you.

I agree. I want to avoid painting the can if possible.


This past month or so, I have seriously considered getting new side plastics and repainting my entire bike a twotone scheme. Blue would be the primary and the secondary and detail colors are going to be either white, silver or black. I have been doing some simple designs with my buddy. Now all we really need to figure out is cost of materials (thats going to be fun :disapp: ). If its too much, I will just send it to someone and get it painted. I could consider the can as my focal point for the project. Fortunately there is no rush on this, and I have plenty of options to choose from. The Can should be coming in thursday. This is giong to be interesting...

Yea :iagree: ! I had parts for a high perf. 350 that were anodized.I tried to sand 'em and paint 'em and neither the paint or primer suck to the metal,just beaded up and because I tried to lightly rough the surface of some of the parts,they were ALL no good-example-(one valve cover sanded,one not),I could get the paint off but sanding ruined the finish.I don't know what it is about anodized alum. but the paint beads like water on wax!

I was browsing the web and noticed that micron sells the canister sleeves individually. This means I can get any color i want and probably re sell the blue sleeve on e bay. Its a little pricey but still would have paid the same amount for a decent used one anyway. I have to wait for my slip on to arrive to check for specs. This is definitely a much less expensive and better option than my previous ones. Hell they sell sleeves on ebay for way cheaper (but I bet they are knock off sleeves). Waiting game continues.

How good would that look though? I could always rivet the micron logo on the carbon fiber. But I really dont know the first thing about carbon fiber. I would rather spend the $60-$80 getting the correct sleeve in finish I want. However, I plan to look into all the options eveyone has mentioned.

If its only $60 to $80 for a new sleeve, that's the way I would go. You have options on the C/F wrap. Get the vinyl sheets cheap. Might last a year or two but, you would get enough to do it a couple of times. Or you get the real stuff for almost as much as the new sleeve. I'm sure the have that option already any way.

Oh and BTW, talked to Micron USA customer service.....not the best in the world. I plan to go other routes before calling them and purchasing direct. Just an FYI if you had to call Micron or something.
