i have a 1995 Suzuki GS500E (for sale by the way, $2500 OBO)... i noticed a whirring noise and realized my chain was pretty loose. i see the threaded bolts at the ends of the swingarm forks to move the wheel unit forward or backward. how much tension should there be on the chain when i'm done? should it be completely taught? or how much should it move up from resting position? thanks

I would say between .5" and 1". Most people keep theirs too tight. This can cause what appears to be the rear suspension bottoming out but can actually be the chain going taught. You can also check your owners manual.
